In celebration of Family Literacy Day (FLD) 2009, be part of something big – really BIG!
ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation and Official FLD World Record Attempt Sponsor Oxford Learning are asking Canadians of all ages to help us break the Guinness World Record™ for “Most Children Reading With an Adult, Multiple Locations.”
Please join us in the attempt to break the current record of 78,791, set by the U.S. in 2006, by either hosting or attending a public FLD World Record Attempt event on January 23 and/or 24, 2009. Don’t forget to download the free FLD World Record Attempt poster to help promote the event in your town!

10 FACTS ON THE FLD WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT EVENT
All World Record Attempt events must take place between 2 p.m. (EST) on January 23, 2009
and 2 p.m. (EST) on January 24, 2009.Event co-ordinators must register their FLD World Record Attempt event on the Family Literacy Day website. Families can also search for public events to attend in their town or city.
There is an event-planning guide with all the details and guidelines on the FLD World Record Attempt event that event co-ordinators should download and follow.
Anyone can participate in the FLD World Record Attempt, from one adult and child at home to large public celebrations with several readers and groups of children.
At every World Record Attempt event there must be at least one adult reader for every 35 children.
Each World Record Attempt reading must last for 30 minutes, but this does not have to be 30 consecutive minutes.
Everyone participating in the World Record Attempt event must read the whole Munschworks 2 collection, by Robert Munsch, or the five individual books from the collection, in the following order:

Pigs;
Mortimer;
Purple, Green and Yellow;
Murmel, Murmel, Murmel;
Something GoodOnly children and adult readers are counted towards the final world record. All adult readers must sign the registration form.
At every FLD World Record Attempt event there must be an independent witness for every 100 participants and he/she must write a witness statement to give to the event co-ordinator to send in to ABC CANADA with other documentation.
All documents must be mailed to ABC CANADA by February 6, 2009 so it can be send to Guinness. Please send us the Registration Form(s), Witness Statement(s), and photos/video/media coverage if there is any.
