Millions of adult Canadians struggle with literacy challenges. This problem has far-reaching implications for Canada’s businesses and economy. The ability of businesses to advance their operations by hiring and retaining qualified employees, and Canada’s readiness to compete on the world stage, are both jeopardized if adult workers lack the requisite literacy and numeracy skills.

The workplace is a natural and essential venue to offer opportunities for upgrading literacy skills. ABC CANADA applauds the leadership shown by business and labour to develop workplace literacy and essential skills training programs. Our initiatives showcase these endeavours and encourage others to show similar leadership. We also harness the passion and talents of a considerable corporate network to convene leaders, stimulate debate, raise public awareness, and drive meaningful change in workplace literacy policy and practice.
